...they work a wonder Nature cannot do...

How Nature Plays At Wedding

By Robert King

How Nature plays at wedding: she’s consumed
by matchmaking bees; by moon and stars that dance
with Earth; by continents that, every chance,
collide, just trying to unite, but doomed
to birth mere hills and ridges. She can’t wear
the wedding gown, or ring. She’s not a she
to meet a man and mate. She can’t agree,
dispute, apologise, or fear, or dare
as wedded couples do. A star stays true
to course by gravity, but spouses stay
by weight of choice; together every day
they work a wonder Nature cannot do:
this touch of hands moves more than rock or hill;
this touch of lips moves mind and heart and will.
